SAN FRANCISCO MAYOR ED LEE ENDORSES WILLIAM TONG’S UNITED STATES SENATE BID
Stamford, CT — Today, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, the first Chinese American to serve as mayor of San Francisco, as well as the first Asian American elected to the office, endorsed William Tong’s candidacy for the United States Senate.
“I am humbled to receive Mayor Lee’s endorsement. We share not only a common story, but a common belief in the future of this country, its states, and its cities. Today is Lunar New Year, a day to honor teachers and leaders — and a day to give thanks for all they have done for us. So today I honor Mayor Lee’s service to the country and the community, and I am deeply honored to have earned his support,” said Tong.
Ed Lee has spent much of his professional life serving the city of San Francisco. He was appointed Director of Public Works in 2000 and later served two terms as City Administrator. He was appointed Mayor in 2011 and was subsequently elected to a full term, becoming the first Asian American ever to hold that office.
“William knows what it means to work hard for a living, for a dream, and I know he will use that experience to help lead Connecticut back to economic prosperity,” Lee said. “I am excited to support a new generation of young leaders who choose a life of public service and dedicate their energy to helping others fulfill the promise of the American dream.”
“Mayor Lee is a great leader of a great American city, and he knows firsthand how to grow an economy and create jobs while making tough choices for the future of a community. His endorsement, and the endorsement of other national leaders, continues to show that our underdog campaign is ready to lead a comeback for Connecticut and for this country,” said Tong.
