Meet WilliamAbout William Tong for Mayor

William Tong brings energy, passion and a clear vision to the race for Stamford’s next mayor. A fourth term state legislator, William has distinguished himself through his ability to get the job done for Stamford and its citizens.

From his very first job working after school in his family’s restaurant, to representing Stamford in Hartford, William has proven his mettle through his tenacity, work ethic and ability to deliver results. In the legislature, he is a recognized leader on job growth. William has worked with colleagues and the Governor to bring large employers to Stamford, and has helped create innovative tax incentives and financing programs to jumpstart vital new industries like the film and television industry. He has also been instrumental in creating programs to provide loans and lines of credit for small businesses, start-ups and nonprofits.

meet-william-train-beigeIn addition to creating jobs, William has focused his energies on helping the Stamford community. He has increased education funding from the state for Stamford’s public schools, helped make college more affordable to more students and continues to fight for the redevelopment of Wright Tech. He voted for property tax relief for seniors and secured funding for home care programs to help seniors maintain their independence. William stood up to the NRA, sponsoring and securing passage of the Lost and Stolen Firearms Act, groundbreaking legislation that makes our community safer by getting illegal guns off our streets. And as Chairman of the House Banks Committee, William has been on the front lines of the housing and foreclosure crisis, writing and passing several pieces of legislation to help thousands of people stay in their homes and our vital housing sector recover.
Meet William Family
William was born and raised in Connecticut, the oldest of five children born to first generation immigrants. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Stamford with their three children, Eleanor (6), a first grader in the Stamford Public Schools, Penelope (4) and son Sasha (19 months). He is Of Counsel to Finn Dixon & Herling LLP, a Stamford-based law firm, where he practices commercial litigation.
